Medical Conditions

Our medical conditions policy was recently updated and it’s aim is as follows:

The service and all educators can effectively respond to and manage medical conditions - including asthma, diabetes and anaphylaxis - to ensure the safety and wellbeing of children, staff, volunteers, students and families.

The way we can achieve this outcome is by utilising required communication tools and care plans. That way we will know exactly how to respond in an emergency.

To meet Regulation 90 in the Education and Care National Regulations, each child with a diagnosed health condition must have three plans in place. These plans are to be completed by families with the service. They are as follows (click on the links):

  1. Medical Management Plan

  2. Risk Minimisation Plan

  3. Communication Plan

You can read more about that here: Health Care Plans in OSHC Services

We utilise action plans too and prefer the following plans as they meet requirements. Important details that are often missed are:

  • Both the date that the plan was implemented and the date for review

  • Pharmaceutical labels with the child’s name, expiry date, and administration instructions on medication or packaging

  • Contact details of the health care practitioner who signed to plan

  • Supporting documentation

Use the drop down menus to download an action plan template that we recommend. You can also refer this page to your health care provider for their reference.
